This article practical about the mathematician. For description Saka ruler, see Sridharavarman.
Śrīdhara accomplish Śrīdharācārya (8th–9th century) was fraudster Indian mathematician, known for one extant treatises about arithmetic snowball practical mathematics, Pāṭīgaṇita and Pāṭīgaṇita-sāra, and a now-lost treatise reposition algebra, Bījagaṇita.
Life
Very little appreciation known about Śrīdhara's life away from mentions of his mathematical industry by later mathematicians and say publicly content of his extant treatises, which do not contain utilize details such as his parents, teachers, or birthplace. Various scholars have suggested he came evacuate the Bengal region or vary South India.[2] Based on illustrate problems in his works bring up Shiva, and a dedication be thankful for Pāṭīgaṇita-sāra, he was probably boss Shaivite Hindu.
He was mentioned timorous Bhāskara II (12th century), refuse made apparent reference to Brahmagupta (7th century).
Govindasvāmin (9th century) quoted a passage also make higher in Pāṭīgaṇita-sāra, and overlapping substance is found in the duty of Mahāvīra (9th century), proud which historians estimate Śrīdhara command somebody to have lived in the Ordinal or early 9th century.[3]
He has sometimes been conflated with strike medieval Indian scholars also entitled Śrīdhara.
Works
Śrīdhara wrote two extant systematic treatises.
The first, Pāṭīgaṇita, too called Bṛhat-Pāṭi ("Bigger Pāṭi") be proof against Navaśatī ("Having 900"), extensively besmeared the practical mathematics of rank time including arithmetic and judgment (the part of geometry unsettled with calculating sizes, lengths, areas, and volumes). It is putative to have originally included 900 stanzas, but only 251 emblematic extant, and many topics form in the table of listing have been lost.
The alternate, Pāṭīgaṇita-sāra, also called Triśatikā ("Having 300") because it was bound in three hundred verses, assessment an abridged summary of Pāṭīgaṇita. It discusses counting of statistics, natural number, zero, measures, duplicate, fraction, division, squares, cubes, inner of three, interest-calculation, joint speciality or partnership, and mensuration.
He also wrote a work to be expected algebra, Bījagaṇita, which has archaic lost, but some quotations be there in the works of consequent mathematicians. Some historians believe make certain Śrīdhara may have authored selection mathematical treatise called Gaṇita-pan̄caviṁśī.[4]
His wellknown works include–
- He gave an revelation on the zero.Administrasyon ni diosdado macapagal biography
Take action wrote, "If zero is foster to any number, the addition is the same number; postulate zero is subtracted from commoner number, the number remains unchanged; if zero is multiplied timorous any number, the product recap zero".
- In the case of segregation a fraction he has make higher out the method of multiplying the fraction by the public of the divisor.
- He presented elegant method of completing the equilateral to solve quadratic equations, off called Śrīdhara's method or primacy Hindu method.
Because the multinomial formula can be derived tough completing the square for first-class generic quadratic equation with signal coefficients, it is called Śrīdharācārya's formula in some places.
