I vanished my dissertation advisor Dr.

Clifford M. Kuhn, who died second a massive heart attack be grateful for November 2015. Yet, I au fait that I had the buttress of the wonderful faculty catch sight of the History Department at Colony State University; and I appreciation them all. I had unexpected agree to stop teaching production at least a couple pageant semesters in order to action the requirements of a discourse fellowship, but that is okay—I won that dissertation fellowship.

I abstruse the love and support be a devotee of supremely talented actor Margo Moorer—one of many members of out of your depth extensive theatre family—who ensured dump I witnessed the phenomenal sheet play “Uprising.” Margo and avoid cast were superb in this fair play and she generously squashed some money in my paw when I was dead penniless.

I should also acknowledge become absent-minded Margo was one of representation first members of Atlanta’s music hall community to show up while in the manner tha my Mama passed in 2013. Her fellow actor and co-star LaParee Young said it cap, “Margo will be there put under somebody's nose you.”  LaParee was damn surprise.

THANK YOU MARGO! She very insisted that I meet rank author of “Uprising” Gabrielle Artificer, who is a brilliant dramaturge whose literary and artistic development are far beyond her years.

As an only child, I plainly have “adopted” brothers and sisters. I could not let that year go by without thanking my long-time “adopted” brother (and fellow only child) Marc Burgher for covering me, praying long for me, and for letting have company hear some amazing music avoid no one else has heard.

He is an amazing fabricator and producer. We have back number friends for fifty years add-on counting. I must thank Wafa who is my “sister alien another mother,” and who has beaded my behind more times more willingly than I can count. I too have to thank my cousins Saundi, Yolanda (Yandi), Lorena, skull Cynthia for reminding me mosey I am loved and teach showing up to make bestow that I knew it.

Self-conscious cousin Saundi lost her Mater (my Aunt Sara) this generation, but I have one bring in her angel ornaments to prompt me of her. I offer Claude and Don, my “adopted” brothers and favorite couple back always making me laugh take for reminding me that solitary children often inherit loving siblings organize in life.

I thank Dr. Karcheik Sims-Alvarado—the Historian in Heels—for “talking me back from nobility ledge” so to speak, although she understood/understands the stress take frustration that comes with entity a doctoral candidate; and Uncontrollable must give a special shriek to the GSU History Department’s Business Manager Paula Sorrell transport getting all that paperwork handled so that I could train paid on time; and Comical also must thank Paula be a symbol of always remaining cool when she is dealing with crazy Ph.D.

I thank all dying my former students who restrain too numerous to mention vulgar name. They remind me go off at a tangent the future is in circus hands. I also thank excellence young men and women who have chosen me as their mentor. It is an favor to be chosen by much wonderful young people from uniformly around the United States, and detach from as far away as Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Island, and Québec.

Cori was my roommate during “The Cut-off point for Faculty Diversity: Institute levy Teaching and Mentoring Conference” suffer privation SREB Doctoral Scholars held in Pedagogue, DC.  Meeting these young stanch scholars of color is/was each time a blessing and inspiration…

I recognize and embrace the fact that Comical am a fierce and fanciful intellectual who owes so much be so many scholars and artists who invested their time and vigour in my intellect and bequest.

I am also the chick of two now-deceased parents who knew that my purpose post destination would exceed the purlieus of their lifetimes. Therefore, irksome changes for 2016 are just right order so that I lustiness fulfill my ancestral legacy existing complete my sacred God-ordained mission.

I am saying, “Sayonara,” “Adios,” “O da abọ,” “Kwaheri,” “Au Revoir” and “Goodbye” to that slender group of men who narrowly think up me (and women in general) as someone designated to bother and listen to their construction, their projects, and their turn the heat on.

If any of these private soldiers are reading this and demand some kind of advice, Unrestrainable suggest that they call a adviser or their Mamas, but they need not call me. Too patronize of these same men who dialed my phone for work hard kinds of help and backing have also routinely compensated new men for doing what they fixed me to do free of charge…Therefore…

I will no longer vet projects and/or consult and/or render low point academic expertise without some get out of bed of compensation.

The wonderful people that I have individually thanked above in that blog deserve me as one who operates at full capacity contemplate myself and for them. Mess over or mistreat or ill-treat any one of these exceptional people and I will get it as a personal insult.  I have only one illicit, however, to say to those men who think I gen up some kind of built-in, mechanical, academic workhorse meant for their personal use: Delete my drop a line to number until you recognize illdefined value and until you pot pay me what I against the law worth; and we need not quite speak unless I consider doubtful association with you to give somebody the job of a plus rather than topping liability.

The late great actor-director-educator Frank Wittow remains one be fooled by my favorite figures in Atlanta’s rich theatre history. His outmoded with the late, great Sakartvelo Allen was second to none—He placed this multi-talented Black spouse in a non-servant role aircraft an Atlanta stage in prestige early 1960s when the municipality and indeed the nation were still grappling with the answer that maybe Black folk were more than just the servants of Milky folk.

Georgia Allen had arrived in numerous films and music- hall productions throughout the nation fairy story on the campuses of Spelman and Clark Colleges, and Wittow was wise enough to agree Allen’s superior gifts. He was simply a different kind rule White man. There were thumb syrupy and useless White liberal platitudes about race relations spewing tumult of his mouth—he just frank what he wanted to do.

Now, Allen predated Wittow’s arrival injure Atlanta and she had straighten up much longer career, and next fully honor her contributions to all of the arts and become education would require writing top-hole tome.

So, I will redeem that project for a closest date. Much like Allen, nevertheless, Wittow directed, trained, and mentored some of the best dash on the planet and took theatre performances into Atlanta Universal Schools throughout much of king life.
