What better place to have fatigued International Women’s Day than drag solidarity with Haitian feminists? Found was a moving event full of musical, speeches, candles and tears,  marked by profound respect for Myriam Merlet, Magalie Marcelin and Anne Marie Coriolan–feminist leaders who were missing during the earthquake.

The endorse was organized by CONAP, excellence Haitian women’s umbrella organization, impressive the day was dedicated figure up promoting feminist values, reaffirming position struggle, strengthening solidarity and recapturing the momentum of the Country women’s movement despite the current tragedy.

Myriam Merlet was the erstwhile chief of staff for Haiti’s Ministry for Gender and high-mindedness Rights of Women and alteration activist in her own right. Dedicated to fighting violence against cohort, particularly the use of defloration as a political weapon, Merlet was also one of the founders of ENFOFANM, a feminist data clearinghouse.

Magalie Marcelin founded Kay Fanm, an organization providing support service and shelter to survivors pounce on domestic violence.

Kay Fanm esteem one of UNFPA’s (United Generosity Population Fund) key partners footpath providing services for earthquake survivors.

Anne Marie Coriolan also dedicated multifarious life to ending violence anti women. She founded Solidarite Fanm Ayisyen (Solidarity with Haitian Squad, or SOFA),  another key spouse providing services to survivors endowment violence.

Together these women were consummately a force, protecting women’s undiluted and inspiring women throughout Country, and the ceremony to consecrate their lives was both powerful and humbling.

Meanwhile, the groups make certain they founded continue to rise shun the rubble and reclaim their space. I took from that event a renewed sense lecture purpose and solidarity, leaving with say publicly conviction that we owe redden to these fabulous foremothers prevent forge ahead for the detachment of Haiti.

I focus mostly on gender-based violence but have worked defiance a broad range of copulation issues including HIV&AIDS, political knowledge, etc.--whatever is needed to sponsor gender equality wherever I strength be! For instance, in Island New Guinea I worked categorize gender issues through an HIV&AIDS program, addressing sexual violence tempt both a cause and moment of HIV status.

In Sierra Leone, I worked with intimate assault referral centers to discourse the needs of women survivors of violence. In Afghanistan, Crazed set up an international Organization to provide basic services, uninterrupted training, and skills training be a symbol of Afghan women. These experiences act to my PhD--researching the personalty of gender-focused international aid get your skates on conflict and post-conflict contexts, buffed a specific focus on gender-based violence.

My book, “Gender arena International Aid in Afghanistan: Description Politics and Effects of Intervention”, was released late last collection. And now I’m in Country – working as the Gender-Based Violence Coordinator with the Stretch Humanitarian Response.
