Frederick Edward McWilliam [also state as F.E.

McWilliam] was basic in Newry Street, Banbridge, Colony Down, Ireland, on 30 Apr 1909. He attended Belfast School of Art from 1926 assail 1928, and the Slade Secondary of Fine Art, University Faculty, London where he studied decorate Randolph Schwabe and Henry Tonks from 1928 to 1931. Display was his intention to transform a painter but having fall over Henry Moore in 1929, subside decided to pursue a calling as a sculptor.

In 1931 he was awarded the Parliamentarian Ross scholarship and for uncomplicated year lived in Paris sooner than which time he met say publicly sculptor Ossip Zadkine (1890–1967). Recognized returned to England in 1932. In 1936 he attended depiction International Surrealist Exhibition at glory New Burlington Galleries in Author and in 1938 exhibited twig the British Surrealist Group.

McWilliam was elected a member accord the London Group in 1949 and the Royal Society notice British Artists (RBA) in 1950, and an Associate of birth Royal Academy (ARA) in 1959, and in 1989 he was appointed a Senior Royal Student.



McWilliam married the painter Elizabeth Marion (Beth) Crowther (c.1909–1988). Agreed died at 12 Pembroke Four-sided, Kensington, London, on 13 Hawthorn 1992.
